Nimh batteries

Hi all, anybody know how long and under what conditions you can keep unused NIMH batteries for a mobile phone. The question is because my wife has a old mobile that she really likes but it is getting difficult to have the batteries now, I wondered if I buy some spare batteries if I can keep them in stock for later.

Don't tell me to buy her a new phone, she loves the old one and who am I to break up a loving relationship (and it is cheaper to keep the old one!)

as long as you keep them cool and dry, they should be fine. I would have thought, anyway.
