Just Horrible!!!

I live on a modern estate - all white doors, garage door etc. We had ours all repainted a few months ago - white again. Neighbours across the road have just painted their door, side panel and garage door......bright red!!!! Whilst I respect their right to paint their own house, they don't have to look at it as much as the rest of us and it's hideous and stands out like a sore thumb :o(

my point is though lozzer, if you can't stand that then don't live in that type of estate - live somewhere else. It wouldn't be my first choice to live in this type of estate either, but we do for very practical reasons. Having made that choice, then you need to conform, otherwise it just looks a mess - the houses are designed to look uniform because that's what makes them look best - other types of estates look lovely with all different colours.

Our next door neighbours have had their house painted bright yellow.... and their front door pillar box red. When the painters were doing it we had a laugh with them about it and now we call it the Noddy house. I like it, makes me laugh when I pull up our drive and see it :oD

My son lived in a cul-de- sac composed of the sort of houses you describe all white.One guy painted his door and frames dark green and then put it up for sale,It was sold and the new occupants left the green paintwork.Now 3 years later all the houses are different colours and the little group together looks alive and lived in, whereas previously it was rather sterile and uninteresting.
So well done that man.

Why on earth do people 'need to conform' just because all the houses are painted white? That does not mean they need to stay that way.

I applaud someone who changes things - unless you have a restricted covenant which says you can't, it's a great idea. Who wants to conform? I'm damned if I'd move house rather than leave my front door white - all one colour sounds dreadfully boring - it's just asking to be painted!

Many, many years ago a now ex decided to paint the outside of the bungalow. This was in a lane of detached bungalows all identical. He stood in the middle of the road making a note of the colour of everyones house. He wanted to be different so he chose purple and grey, it was bl888y awful, but he wouldn't listen. But that was how he was, he didn't last long!

I love chuck's street. It looks really interesting and the colours are muted not bright, so it looks very tasteful. When I move into my bungalow, which I hope will be sorted out soon, I shall paint everything green.

That's because it is supposed to be unlucky craft but I look around me and see the whole of Nature is green so how can it be unlucky? It has always been my favourite colour.

Sorry to burst your bubble annie but your estate was painted white for exactly the reasons one of the other aber's said- cheapness. It was not some grand design scheme, the minimnalist monochrome pitched to you as a design feature was in fact done so that the building firm could shave about 80% off their costs and not have differeing finishes on the houses, whilst managing not to upset the incoming buyers and look cheap. Plus it's a vile idea for everything to be the same. Hopefully now one person has altered what must be like living in stodgy, doughey bland hell, everyone will. Go on have a think about what colour you'd like to paint yours- and please don't say white, use your imagination a bit, colour is fun.

Nox i agree, a b/f lived on one of these estates, and i can't tell you how many times i got lost trying to find the house, sounds funny but it wasn't. All the houses were identical, and even with the street names, it didn't make it easier.

I have a bright red door and I love it, and no complaints from my neighbours.In our road we all have the colour of our choice.

i cant imagine many choosing their home based on something that petty and shallow...and your notion that they should move just because they dont like the same as you...well thats just pathetic - why is it up to you??

joko -actually it says more about you than me - did you bother to read the whole thread? or did you just pick up on a jokey interchange between me and trim and decide what kind of person I am?

I have as much right to dislike it as they have to paint it. I didn't ask anyone to agree with me as quite frankly I don't really care whether they do or not.

Just cos they have a horrible front door doesn't make them bad people. Interestingly the woman who painted it now hates it too. She only did it as a another neighbour had talked about getting hers done and she wanted to get in first - so did a half arsed botch job which now needs repainted!!
