I find it annoying anyway. If the rubbish script hadn't been written by someone quite so well known, it would still be languishing on the slush pile. Having said that I do think Maggie Smith has some rather good lines. 'You're a lady - not Toad of Toad Hall!). :o)
Sandy, unlike Downton Abbey, Upstairs Downstairs was class!

Unfortunately, it's the law of supply and demand operating. Loads of people watch it so the advertisers are prepared to pay to get their messages across. ITV is in such trouble financially that they will take all the funding they can get. Late night programmes with hardly any viewers get hardly any advertising.
ITV are only allowed a maximum of 12 minutes advertising per hour, the rest will be trailers and programme announcements, so not adverts as such.
Most programmes that fill an hour of television are about 44 minutes long, even BBC programmes, as they take into account international sales of the programme to commercial channels round the world.

It does seem to be getting into the realms of fantasy! Lady Mary wouldn't dare go to Carter's room, especially if he was in bed.
Thomas would have been patched up and sent back to the front - if you go on Ancestry and read the military records, people were sent back with much worse injuries than that!
Lady Edith would not have looked twice at that farmer!
I did like the scene with the regiment though - it gave an insight to the Senior Officers at home living it up, whilst the poor Tommies were being slaughtered.
The doctor would not have let Moseley get out of going without a medical.
I hope it does not get any worse as I enjoyed the first series.
