PET INSURANCE

Hi all, I wondered if anyone could advise me on what the best pet insurance company would be for my little monster :). She's chipped and young and healthy touch wood, and also wondered what sort of things should I look for in the plan, many thanks xx

I would recommend More Than for pet insurance, they were really good when unfortunately our dog died and reimbursed us for what we originally paid for him and were caring and compassionate.

Find out what it would cost you with an insurance company roxie, then put the money away in a piggy bank. When you need it, it will be there, hopefully not needed for a good few years and the greedy insurance company haven't had a penny of it. Give monster a kiss from me ..

Thanks for both of the comments :) really is appreciated, I am looking at petplan at the moment which looks pretty good, but I'm not sure what exactly I should be looking for. it's £13.50 a month, but hoping to be able to pay it in one go. What is complimentary treatment? Lol xx

That sounds very generous, dixieland. Can you explain a bit more about this amazing insurance policy. I mean your dog had to die sometime, did he not?

He had epilepsy and was on treatment of which we could claim back some of the vet fees twice yearly but he died during one of his seizures and was only six, thats why i would recommend them as not sure about other companies.

Complementary treatment means things like homeopathic treatment, acupuncture, hydrotherapy etc. Decide whether you want to be covered for long term illness over several years, or whether you could cope with cover that runs out after a year, or whether its for one condition or more. Whether you want a lump sum for replacement value should your dog die.
Lots of different companies have different schemes.

Lots of people recommend Tescos, but I don't insure any of mine. Pet Plan are one of the dearest, but most experienced and comprehensive.

Thanks Lankeela, I read some things on the internet about petplan, so have decided to go with them for a year and see how they are, it's £13.50 p/m, and works out the same if I were to pay in one lumpsum. Thanks for the input and explaining what complimentary treatment was hehe xx

We've always used Direct Line & had excellent service.

I know petplan is expensive and they put the premium up 10% every year,but their policy includes 'treatment for life' whereas the one I had with my previous dog did not insure for the same ailment after one year (some have limits per ailment) and it therefore cost me a fortune in her later years when she was on heart drugs and had quite a few vet visit costs for her last few years.IN OTHER WORDS CHECK THE SMALL PRINT.I was glad of my insurance when my dog recently raided my handbag and managed to eat a packet of nurofen.She was in hospital for a week and the bill came to over £1,000!

It cost me £7 odd a month.

Wow...mine cost £30 for my dog and £13 each for my cats,and that's with£90 excess!!!!!Guess I've got a couple of years worth back for my dog claims though.

My daughter was with Sainsburys pet insurance for her three cats. They wanted to charge her over £12 just for one of them - a boy cat aged 3! So she shopped around and got all three of them insured with Pets at Home for £12 and some change plus a £36 for signing up.
Try to make sure some dental treatment is included in the things covered. My own cat is still insured with Sainsburys, but I will be looking around when her renewal falls due
