The lock on my locker at work is jammed. I've broken two keys trying to open it. It will apparently take a contractor 3 weeks to come out (gotta love public services). The powers that be have said that they've got a spare lock, and if I want to remove the old lock myself, I can.... how would I go about it? Should I drill the lock? I want to avoid a crowbar in case I do irreparable damage to the door, but if the advice is to do so, I will.

Bit of a long shot, Yorkers, but I doubt if a locker lock is terribly secure. What I mean is, the locks won't have many "differs"....... ie not very many different key settings. Any chance of getting workmates to try their keys. Might need to jiggle a bit, but it could work.

Both my key and the spare broke when I tried to turn them. They didn't even feel as though they were engaging properly. I did try a mate's key, but didn't want to force it incase I ended up retrieving another broken key with tweezers.
OK .......... just a thought. It sounds like the levers have jammed. If you can see the snib, the sticky-outey springy bit that goes into the keep.......... sometimes it's possible to get the blade of an angle grinder in there and cut it off (thin metal cutting disc ........ only about 1.5mm thick.

Otherwise, drill right into the keyhole until the levers loosen up (crude, I know)

Thank you. I think it's going to be a drill job....
Not that this helps you any, but when I lost the key to my locker (later found in the bottom of my handbag-oopsie!) my boss took a shovel to the locker door and completely broke it off for me- whatta guy, rofl.
I used to be able to open our lockers with a heavy gauge needle... only at the request of the owners and with a witness present....
Can you remove the hinge pins, otherwise spring it open with a bar.
