Contact the Crematorium, if the ashes were buried or scattered there, they will have a record. If the ashes were taken away and scattered elsewhere it could be difficult to find out. When my mother in law died earlier this year we wanted her ashes scattered in the same place as my father in law and the crem could not have been more helpful.
you just need to phone the crem and ask
Contact the local council, the ashes may still be in an urn on somebodies mantel piece. If no surviving family or next of kin his ashes would most like have been scattered in a garden of remembrance, sometimes this will be at the crematorium.
