Rude mother
23 Answers
I have invited all the children in my daughter's class to her party regardless of what I think of their parents or my relationship with their parents (it's a small village and there have been 'issues' - not of our making). Anyway, today I asked one of the mothers if her son was coming to the party and she was really rude - no eye contact and just said 'I don't think so' in a really aggressive tone. No excuse offered or thanks for the invite, etc. They only live next door but one so I know that they don't go far (and obviously I will know if they are in on the day of the party). Why do people use their kids in this way, why stop the boy coming to a party just because she is not keen on me? (And its not just me, other people commented on how rude she was.).

It's just something that people who are only concerned with how the world affects them react in a given situation. They give no thought to what the child may think, feel or the impact on them as they grow up witnessing what I consider to be selfishness at best.
The lady obviously has issues and there is nothing you can do except strike the son off the party list...but never stop inviting him round if your daughter should ask, or inviting him again to future parties. You have to be the bigger, more adult person...and by the sound of it, you are.

There are two aspects. First of all, that mother's attitude was definitely wrong. You can't defend that behavior in any way. Besides that, you should not worry a lot about it. My experience is some people assume others want to get something from them by being nice to them. They always consider themselves very special like super stars. They think people trying to be nice with them are dying to get the honor of shaking hands with them. So, they give that honor to only those, whom they need themselves. Now in future, you don't need to create a situation with that proud lady but try to avoid her. Remember in a small town, everyone needs all other people. She will realize that soon.
Besides that, the reality is some people can maintain a standard of life with current income. However, parties and things like that ruin their monthly or weekly budgets. That makes things worst for everyone.
