Orange star

there's an orange star in what I think is the eastern sky at the moment - it's pretty bright and isn't particularly either high or low in the sky (wasn't sure if anyone would know by 'it's medium in the sky' would mean)! Does anyone know what it is? Is it Mars? Thanks for any help.

Could be Mars. It was only 41million miles away last night; about the closest it gets to us, and it would look like a bright orange star.

It's been there for a few nights, but I hadn't noticed it before then, which is why I wondered. Would Mars appear in that position in the sky?

It most definately is MARS. It will progress to the South. Get a good look. It won't be this close for another 13 years.

Mars was even closer a few years back but as mentioned, it won't be as close again for 13 years.

Mars travels from east (after dusk) to west (before dawn) in the vicinity of the Pleiades (a small cluster of bright stars) a little further west each night.
