This subject comes up, sometimes heatedly, on individual threads here, so I thought I'd start a general discussion so that people can get their views off their chests.
I'll start: I have been doing this Rainbow Quiz for fifteen years, having started with No.3. And I never look at posts on the subject until I have completed the Quiz on my own. That is not being pious it's just so much more fun that way.
Which brings me to my question a question, not a challenge - : what satisfaction do people get in completing the Quiz when they have got some of their answers from others? The frisson one gets when seeing one's name in the 100-per-centers is small and short-lived, but genuine. Do the people who've used others' brains get the same tiny thrill?
The idea that it is done for charity is a red-herring: you can send in the same size of cheque however few you have done.
Here's a mischievous idea. How about those who have been helped, when sending in their entry forms, include the AB names of their helpers. That'd be fun.
Surely the whole idea is to raise money for charity ........ the more people who complete the whole quiz ........ the more likely they are to send in their entry with the entry money !!!!!
This is what I can't understand teacher. Surely, it would make more sense to send in the money when you send off for the quiz, then it doesn't matter how much of it you fill, as the charity still has its donation.
I do agree with you squarebear, but whilst you can download it off the net ....... many people will not send it in if it is not completed. On the other hand ..... how many people would actually know about the quiz if it was not on-line , or would be bothered to send for it by post. I should think there would be less entries if everything had to be done by post alone !
The whole issue here is that there are certain people who will not give answers because they want to be in with a better chance to win themselves! If answers are not given ..... the only ones who lose out are the charities ! And that's my lot !
It can only raise awareness of the charity by having people discuss it.
If anyone is that desperate to win 10 or a bottle of wine by forbbidding us to answer the questions here, then the credit crunch is worse than I thought.
all thos e people who use anagram finders during the rainbow quiz to find answers which woud include all those who object to answers being publicised on the website, are no different from those who use the website as it is. this argument is a total waste of everybody's time. if those who dont like to see other people getting help they do not have to use the computer . the computer is the best vehicle for publicizing this charity quiz that there is so, lets just maintain the status quo.
and guess the quote below taken from that site sums it up
Well boys, I think we should all pool answers from now on so that we can send in hundreds of 100% correct answers which will send DieQuietly from "the other place" screaming up the wall.
Well said chakka35 - my sentiments entirely. I do the quizzes to exercise my brain - and I have only asked for help when I've become well and truly stuck, having exhausted every avenue I can think of. £1 or so is nothing to pay for months of enjoyment, whether you finish it or not - and you're helping people at the same time.
