I find this thread somewhat depressing. A lot of people blame the fireworks and want them banned, thus putting a nail in the coffin of another British tradition.
There are UK laws preventing the letting off of fireworks after 11am (except bonfire night and Chinese new year which is midnight and New Years eve and Diwali which is 1 am the following day). You should blame the law enforcement authorities for not enforcing the law and the idiots who misuse them. If someone throws a brick through your window. you don't blame the brick manufacturer. If someone drinks and drives, you don't say ban cars.
Firework bans encourage highly dangerous underground manufacture using reaily available unstable ingredients (Don't say ban the ingredients, they are used in agriculture, gardening, pottery manufacture and hairdressing to name a few areas. It won't work.
Many US states that have a ban have higher firework injury figures than in states where fireworks are legal. BTW I worked in a firework factory for 8 years in the UK and feel that I have some relevant experience. Unlike many of the posts seen calling for a firework ban which often quote misinformation, urban myth and a total lack of knowledge of the law. Why not enjoy the wonderful spectacle of fireworks? Whatever the items, idiots will always be there to misuse them.
