vw polo saloon

I have got a vw polo saloon but the back windscreen heater doesnt work I think it is an electrical fault any help,? 2001 year

Check the fuse and relay.

Its only the top few lines that arent working which I thought was a bit odd.

If it's only the top few lines that are not working then it sounds like the elements have been damaged.

If the screen has been cleaned with something abrasive or scratched in some way, the elements can be damaged. Take a look at them so see if there is any damage - should be a continuous line all the way from one side to the other. You can buy conductive paint to repair damaged elements but don't know how satisfactory a repair is using this.
