In the old days people had lower expectations about keeping houses warm. One warm room was the custom and fleecy pyjamas for icy bedrooms. And in the 1947 freeze up there wasn't enough coal to go round even if one had the brass.

Absolutely em10. He is now saying that peolple are "tending" to pay off card debts.

probably by using up their savings which is earning eff all in interest.
It always made sense to pay off high interest debts rather than have low interest savings. At present the only decent low risk investments have been the inflation beaters of NS&I, now withdrawn pro tem.
Suggest that the banking industry won't shut down if everyone pays off their credit card bills, or indeed doesn't own one. Which is a safer bet to being relatively debt free.

I dont have a credit card, if I can't afford it I save up or go without.
I dont have a credit card, I do have a savings account that I squirrel away the odd few quid for christmas and birthdays.
