grrr! nothing in this new house simple. we had double phone for landline. Base set in hallway in main BT socket and second phone, just plugged into electric socket in the bedroom. Everything worked fine until now! we have just bought a quad set of phones, now when i try to log on the computer, broadband doesnt work. im sure as the base set is sending a signal to the other phones maybe, so the computer wont log on as the wi-fi is already being used if you know what i mean, i may be completely wrong. so how do i manage to go online and use my landline at the same time? As i said, the other two phones worked fine. Admittedly, a while ago i bought just one phone with a cord to use in the study. i plugged that in and it stopped the computer from working. i just dont get it! my hubby says that the bt engineer when we first moved in said the point in the hallway for the main base was a special point, ie i assume for wifi??

A filter might help

whats a filter, where do i get one and what do i do with it please?
They plug into the phone sockets to stop any interference, that`s all I know sorry
you often get them in the box with the router it looks like a bt phone line splitter, is just a small box.

I had problem with my router and phone signals you have to swap the cables around so that either the main phone or router is the first in the chain (connected to the main phone line switch) it's about which is in line first in chain
You plug the filter into the phone point then your router and phone into the filter, making sure you have them the right way round.
I ha the same problem with my phone when I changed over to Sky from Virgin, but do as craft says.

hi, put in filter in main bt box in hallway and yes internet works, phone works in hallway too and so does the one on the first floor but the one on the third floor as we have a townhouse is saying out of range, mmm what is the problem now? grrrr! the one in the kitchen, the fourth one isnt working at the moment, hubby still fiddling. As they are just being plugged into electrical sockets apart fromt the base i really dont understand.hubby is saying it may be something to do with the 4 handsets?
well the main phone that plugs in into the main phone line sends a signal to the others that plug into the mains, (like a walkie talkie if you walk to far away from the other handset the walkie talkies won't work and the signal will break up). This is no different with these hands free phones. They might be faulty but as the one on the second floor is working it shows this is unlikely. Try the phones which aren't working in the second floor plug socket (both handset and base). If they work its likely its a signal problem not a fault, on the third floor it is too far away for the main phone on the ground floor to send a signal. Solution get new phones with stronger signal, or add an phone line extension up to the second floor and plug the filter main phone and router there. We have three floors here and the main phone and router is in the middle level so no probs
also with the handsets not working make sure the bases are plugged in because these act as a hub to talk to the main phone if these are not plugged in the handset is having to talk to it's nearest plugged in base and it's often too far
