Well you won't get good players without it, nor managers, etc, so i wouldn't say ruined, but certainly if there is criminal behaviour, as in betting scams, then those involved should be prosecuted and fined or go to jail. They have done it in other sports. I doubt that any sport can remain unsullied when money is involved, and idiots to dirty the name of their respective sport.
It's no new phenomenon. Even England internationals: -

Incidentally, I've said on here before that I was at Lord's on the day that the cricket story is all supposed to have happened and I did not feel cheated at all. Nobody who saw that day will feel that there was anything untoward going on. There were two centuries by England batsmen, Broad and Trott, and a brilliant spell of bowling by Mohammed Amir, who was 18 at the time. Quite frankly, it was one of the best days of cricket I've ever seen and I've been going to test and county matches for over 40 years.

Who is the victim in this? If the answer is Asian bookmakers, I for one am not too fussed. If they didn't take these stupid bets then there wouldn't be a motive for misdeeds.
Check out the feuds between the Blues and the Greens in Ancient Rome - political interference, betting scandals, overpaid sportsmen and social unrest blamed on sporting rivalries - they had it all first!
I've never being a betting man (on sport) the grand national being an exception, but the evidence seems quite clear that most sports are corrupt in some manner.

Having read the Matthew Le Tissier confession, it made me laugh, he was always a bag of sh*te so the fact he couldn't put the ball out of play doesn't surprise me one bit.
Hee hee Arksided.
Football has always been a great game ruined by those that play and manage it.

Game for gentlemen played by yobbos has never been so true.
On "Who do you think you are" a few weeks ago they had June Brown (Eastenders)

One of her ancestors was a bare knuckle boxer (over 100 years ago)

Many of his fights were done in private and local "toffs" in top hats would watch the boxing and bet on it (illegal at the time).

So people have always bet illegally, only now with mobile phones, internet and so on it is easier to organize on a world wide basis.
