I've just looked at my daughter's one from the early 1990s and that has two screw holes on the back at shoulder level and 2 holes underneath - as it only has one mouth hole I'm not sure what the point of the 2 holes is. I imagine the screws attach to whatever keeps the tube from mouth to bottom in place.
It has quite a bit printed on the back but no date. (Zapf, copyright Head, made in China, a serial number then Roedental and there's a little number at the top of the back.)
I don't suppose any of that helps but to find out if the tube inside is still ok dribble a measured amount of water in and see what comes out the other end. If it was supposed to cry it would probably have one of those `hole-y areas' on the back.
