Always a difficult crossword this one, which I try hard to complete without resorting to this web site. However, this time I am stuck on 3 which no-one else seems to have asked about.

21d: Ink's smudges cramping Egyptian leaders's cursive handwriting (5) n-s--
I think this is an anagram of inks + e but cannot find any such word in any of my many reference books.
26a: Lose courage then judge Australia's first home in the outback (6) ---t-a
