Do computers have alarms built into them. I was trying to increase the volume on mine yesterday and quite suddenly it started a high pitched noise a bit like a fire alarm, I panicked and tried to turn it off but it wouldn't even turn off although it did after a few minutes. I remember on my last computer i was once fiddling about with something and got a really loud noise and once again it wouldn't switch off, any ideas please. My old laptop was a toshiba Vista and this one is Packard Bell with Windows 7

There are various possible causes (including viruses) but the most usual is that the processor is overheating. Check that there are no obstructed vents and that the fan is running freely.
