Funerals
3 Answers
My father-in-law has terminal cancer and only has a few weeks to live. He wants to be layed to rest in Ireland (we live in England). My mother-in-law had a major stroke last year and is not in the best of health (she also wants to be buried in Ireland). Since it would not be practical for her to travel to Ireland for a funeral would it be possible to delay my father-in-laws funeral until such time they could be buried together (ie, he would be kept in a mortuary). Obviously, the timescales are an unknown quantity, but realistically is not likely to be very long. Sorry, this is a rather bizarre post, but has anyone had any similar experience or know if it would be possible.

Are they against cremation? could they have a crem funeral here then when m-i-l dies, she's cremated too, then bury both of their ashes together in ireland?
or have a funeral here, then send the body to ireland for interment?

I remember a couple of years ago there was a court case, a young woman had died and her father was convinced she was murdered (the authorities could find no evidence of this), he refused to have a funeral. His ex wife eventually took the matter to court so she could lay her daughter to rest, I think she was kept in a mortuary for about 20 odd years. So, not the same situation as yours but there may well be companies that will keep a body until you're ready.
