are some people not suceptible to seeing ghosts?

I ask this because my in-laws house is (according to them) haunted by a small girl. LOL, I put this down to their love of whisky.
Stayed there several times and been up and down the stair all hours of night to use the toilet etc. TBH I didnt know about the ghost story until last week. Its a closely guarded story not repeated in front of the kids etc.
My wife said when she visited last year she took a friends daughter (as company for our daughter - both aged 14) As soon as they got there, the friends daughter went upstairs to drop her suitcase off in the bedroom, came downstairs and said 'who's the little girl in the bedroom?'
Theres no way she wouldve known the story, I'm convinced its never been spoken about to the point of being overheard. Like I said I had no knowledge of it until last week. My 2 daughters have stayed there alot and not seen anything. Only my MIL and this girl have seen anything.

It is imposible to explore the many possible explanations for a supposed supernatural event when you are working after that 'event' and cannot possibly know all the circumstances.

I've never seen, heard or felt a thing despite being really interested in the subject since I was a kid and going on overnight vigils and the like - but I too think there is too much evidence to dismiss it out of hand just because you haven't seen anything personally. I don't think they're spirits with a 'mission' or anything but more likely to be some sort of recording on the atmosphere that gets replayed in the presence of certain people that are tuned in to the right wavelength. It would explain why they are sometimes seen to be above or below the present floor level (because it was different in their time)
Unfortunately, crappy shows like 'Most Haunted' have given hordes of gullible thrill seekers leave to infest the internet with a load of rubbish an given the whole thing a bit of a bad name. However, if you look you can still find the odd story like this which I think is pretty convincing - http://www.telegraph....ive-up-the-ghost.html
