I live in the noth east (Durham City) Is it too early to prune my very productive apple tree?

Here in the western U.S. we prune the apples only when fully dormant. That won't be for another 30 days or so... say the last week of November...
In the Alan Tichmarsh show yesterday he recommended now is the time to prune back.
now is about the right time here in the UK!.....before the first frost!.......
