For (a fictitious) example, if you found a folder named 'weather' within the files for a program called 'Codswallophelper' (which you did remember installing) it would tell you that you needed to reinstall 'Codswallophelper'.

I've gone to the Control Panel and Programmes but I can't find anything referring to "weather" and I can't see any name that I recognise that it's likely to be sub-filed under either.I assume Al that it is the one that sits in the tray only because that's the only "weather" I can see!! Never mind as I said I'm not particularly bothered either way, thanks again for trying!
That was the next step ..
It is really only a partial fix tho.
There is a Registry Entry in Run that refers to the 'old' removed or uninstalled program. My guess is that is was deleted in Program Files .. or Uninstalled when it was running.
You need to edit the Registry really to remove any reference to the program.
Another way to remove that entry is to use Hijackthis and scan .. then find the entry in the results .. check it to remove. Careful with HijackThis tho .. it can disable Windows if not used properly.
