Interuptions when diciplining kids???
How do you deal with people butting in when your telling your kids off?
The reason I ask is I had the SIL over for a visit. My eldest hit her daughter to which I told my daughter it was wrong and to say sorry, she wouldn't say sorry so I told her there would be no afternoon snack (im finding taking snack away is a good punishment for her) to which the SIL said its okay and I said no its not okay for her to hit. What sort of message does that send to my daughter if she hits someone and their parent is saying its okay in front of her and I'm trying to tell her its wrong. SIL stayed quiet after that.
I don't interupt friends when they have to tell their kids off

When my friends' children were little, we always agreed that if they were in my house, MY rules applied, so even though the parents were there, then if they were messing about with my things, I could tell them off.

me and my friends are pretty good. we are quite happy to even tell off each others kids if one parent is out the room and misses the moment.
i was even down on my knees giving my daughter a row once and had barely got to the end of my sentence when my MIL took her arm and said lets run round the garden and had my daughter jogging off mid sentence. shes very into distraction but theres a time and place for that and not in the middle of me telling her off.

I did interupt once, because I thought the punishment to severe. The parent gave a good hard smack, this was in the days when smacking wasn't frowned on. The smack left a large red mark. I just had to say something to her.
Your method of excluding a child of something they want is a much better option.

the snack really is a good way as my kids just worship their snack times.
it completely knocks my confidence when folk interupt. i've got two pretty OTT kids and I'm really trying to follow through and stick to dicipline and be on the ball with them so when I get interuptions like that I feel it just sets us back and I forget what i'm doing and why there actually getting a telling off.
