Don't you think that spoils the programme, it's getting more like a soap opera with torrid plots just to keep us tuned in.

Funnily enough doc neither am I :-) I just thought one of the strengths of the programme was showing how gentile they were back then, obviously not
I thought back then that it was quite normal for lordships to have affairs with their staff. I am descended from one such lord and a maid!!
showing how not jewish they were?

i think you mean genteel!
Oh lord you're right bednobs ! Genteel of course.
I know that behaviour was normal - I just didn't think that was the message of the series (I didn't watch the first one)

sorry I lost connection just then for about 10mins. Why do you think that the baby was born out of wedlock? as I said last week could it belong to the lost heir? Presume not as she is now giving the glad eye to his nibs.
i think possibly had, some time back, the child could be his.
Downton Abbey always has been bordering on a soap opera so this possible story line is just more of the same. All the same, quite realistic for the time.

I've ben trying to picture the hier (or the actor who played him) before he left for the Titanic. Can anyone find a link for me?
didn't the titanic sink at the very start of the first episode (so therefore he was already dead - no need for an actor to play the role)
Maybe that's why I can't remeber his face, but I thought he was in it for the first episode? Sybil was engaged to him but Edith liked him more. Not until he was dead did Matthew and his mother arrive.
I thought he was engaged to Mary.............
Oh yes, I meant Mary....getting the names muddled. So was he in it Craft?
I don't think so. I think it started with a telegram being received about the Titanic...........
