I am owed tax

On my savings as I haven't been employed for nearly a year and they have been taking gross tax off me. Can I get it back and how ?
I have rang the tax office twice, but was I holding on for so long I gave up.

There is a form to download from the HMRC website. You may need to write a letter to get the tax back. I know one of the young factors did it once and it was straightforward.
