Margaret Thatcher has claimed over Half a million pounds of taxpayers money in the last 5 years for public engagements and answering letters.

Only she doesn't after having been advised not to.

Give her whatever she needs/wants. She gave this country immeasurable benefits, saved us from union domination (miners for one lot) retook the Faulkland Islands after invasion by those Argie pigs and made us once more a nation to be proud. A shame she cannot now come back to save us again because we need her.

Before anyone accuses me of this, I'm no 'hand-wringing lefty' (or whatever tiresome name some ABers are calling them now), nor am I an intransigent critic/hater of Thatcher. But this is remarkably at odds with her own philosophy, don't you think?

Not 6 months ago half the site were baying for blood over MP's fiddling their expenses!

Need her to do what exactly ?
Create even more jobs for the boys ?
Denationalise more of the little industry we have left ?
Create an even bigger me, me, me society ?
Flog off more council housing ?
Snatch more milk ?
She's an elderly lady now in poor health .I doubt she undertakes any public engagements these days and very much doubt she's capable of writing a letter .
I hope she lives out her remaining days peacefully as I wish ill to nobody but not at the taxpayers expense .

Whilst the Falklands War was a truly professional and well executed military operation Thatcher and her PR people milked it for electoral reasons then went on to sell all our family silver - oil , public housing , coal etc to line the pockets of parasites in " The City " ... and by all accounts continues to do so.

jtp....maybe she does,maybe she doesn't...I don't know how much these things cost but no-one has ever asked me if I wanted to chip in with the cost.
