Gatso
There was a post on this site recently which I think said that Gatsos will only take a pic of the rear of your car, and not the front, as the flash could temporarily blind the driver.
In this area, all the gatsos are pointing clearly at the oncoming traffic, on both single and dual carriageways. Have I missed something?

A gatso is one type of speed camera, and one that flashes at the back of your car. there are other speed cameras that take a picture of the fron, but these are not Gatsos's. They are called Specs or truvelo. You are mistaking the name of one brand of camera (Gatso) for the generic name for all speed cameras.
A true gatso only goes for your rear!
The forward facing ones use infra red (light you can't see) to take the picture, therefore you cannot be disturbed by the picture as you drive towards it. Your only argument could be if you were wearing night vision goggles when the pic was taken, as the infra red light would blind these sorts of things temporarily.

The Gatsometer can take a photo of either the rear or the front of the offending vehicle. This has been proved to me by quite a few of my friends who mistakenly believed that they would escape prosecution because they were facing the camera. You can imagine the sounds they made when the envelope dropped on the mat!
