Wrong way round wipers

This really annoys me, I'm rather tall and when given one of these as a courtesy or hire car it can obscure my view of the road.

Peugeot 206, Renault Clio, Renault Scenic, Nissan Tino, why are the windscreen wipers not properly set up for RHD models?

You may excuse these manufacturers for keeping costs down so paupers can afford their cars,

BUT

BMW 5 series? If I pay tens of thousands for a prestige car then I want the wipers to be set up for sitting on the right hand side of the car. You have no excuse.

Anyhow, I drive a Nissan, so maybe I'm too much of a pauper to answer this.

Try and get a Citroen AX or a Mercedes. One wiper. Mo wipers Mo problems.

Go on a used car site in japan and see how many places they export to
as most of the old commonwealth is still right hand drive including India and Malaysia which are very densely populated

A little story the last place to change sides was Sweden and they changed in the 1960's
They decided to change on a Tuesday night when they thought the traffic would be at its lowest level
BUT
Everyone wanted to be the first to drive on the OTHER side and there was chaos
The main point is though that they had driven cars with the wheel on the other side for many years before!

The position of the steering cloumn ses the position of the opther mechanicals in the intake plenum.
If they are designed LHD .. then other equipment will often be on the 'wrong' side on imported RHD models.

Pity. If I had the money for a 5 series, I would look elsewhere. It may be a fine vehicle and I am a fan of rear wheel drive, having learned to drive in a Viva, but the wrong wipers would be too annoying.

Same with the Peugeot 206 SW which is much more in my price range and would be ideal for filling the most capacious boot with dogs and bicycles for my outdoor pursuits. But if those wipers don't wipe the bit of windscreen that I need to look through then what few pennies I have carefully saved will go on a Polo or Fabia estate instead.

My 1984 Golf is the same as VW didn't fit right-hand drive wiper mounts until 1987. I have to peer around the unswept triangle every time it rains.

My SmartCar has RHD wipers...........it's never bothered me.

Just thinking about the BMW 5-series. It is a most un-Germanic situation. They are renowned for doing everything properly. I can only assume that in the short time they owned Rover that some of that old British Leyland "It'll do" attitude rubbed off on them. Lucky really that BMW dropped Rover when they did. Wrong way round wipers on an M5 may be tolerated by some, but imagine if it came with a square steering wheel too!
