Whats the most positive influence mixed races have on your country?
or has the positive's outweighed the negative?

In case anyone was wondering, my birth country was Hong Kong, which was under British rule when I left there as a child.

People of all colours and creeds have flooded here over the past 50 years and have integrated perfectly well, but I think religion is now more of a stumbling block to integration than colour or race. As for banning Christmas lights, or deciding to call Christmas 'Winterval', that sort of stupidity doesn't usually come from people who aren't Christians, but is generally the not so bright idea of petty politically correct town hall bureaucrats who think they are doing it for the best, but are in reality creating further division. Having said that, some Muslims would like to see Christmas disappear, and that must be acknowledged.

Legislation favouring a particular race or pandering to a particular religion has arguably done more to promote racism and contempt for diversity than perhaps any other factor.

The Muslims I know - moderate and rank and file - enjoy the spirit of Christmas, although they don't believe in what it represents. They see it as a family time, time for fun - which, tbh, is what most people in this country also see it as (and allowing for the fact that Christians among us also celebrate Christ's birth as their religious festival).

Boxy, My Muslim friends likewise - but as is often said here, we shouldn't tar them all with the same brush, should we?

Incidentally, my Jewish and Buddhist friends also 'do' Christmas.

I do look around me, and I see that the majority of people who have come here over the past 50 years have integrated. Put your prejudice to one side for a moment and try to look the situation squarely in the face. We see people from other countries - decent, hard-working, tax-paying people - in all walks of life, from the corner shop, to public transport, to politics, to business, the media, and most notably in medicine and the NHS. Yes, we have experienced - and are experiencing conflict - no one can, in all honesty, deny that - but that hasn't come from the majority of immigrants who came here to make a better life for themselves, and have succeeded. Having said that, in recent years, in my opinion, we have opened the door too wide, and to many people who have no intention of integrating, or of contributing anything to society, and who do not benefit this country one iota - and since 9/11we have been presented with a very different problem because there are now people coming to this country who are bent on destroying it. There's no doubt about that, and regardless of our politics, if we're truthful, we must acknowledge that.
