white blouses

I like to see ladies in white blouses i just they look so smart i much prefer long sleeve to the current 3/4 sleeve look.Do any ladies here ever wear white blouses if so is it for work or pleasure? Also have you ever dared to try wearing a tie too. many thanks im curious to hear any answers.

Last white shirt and tie I wore was part of my school uniform but I agree they do look very smart.

i9 have white shirts for work and have a frilly white one for going out... also occasionally wear a silver tie with it... its a feminine tie though

I wear blouses to work sometimes, and sometimes I wear a tie with it - but like LMX, it does look feminine. I don't wear a blouse to work every day though, usually if I'm meeting clients etc.

i wouldnt dream of wearing a white blouse..i would get covered in all sorts of things as i attract dirt..and stains..in fact i dont wear white anything..i am the original grubby kid that grew into a grubby adult...you ought to see the state of me when i have been gardening....!! i buy two giant tubs of vanish every month and 3 large boxes of persil...if i wore white i would need twice as much...

I have to wear a white blouse everyday for work! Boring! Would much prefer a bright colour, suits me better and is soooo much more practical. Hope someone from head office reads this and takes note!!

as i type this i'm dressed in a white shirt, and i think they are smart and practical for work. but do any other ladies have the problem with gaping button holes. i'm a size 8-10 top, but with big boobs!! why don't the shops make them bigger around the boob area? i work in a school and swear i've had year tens creeking their necks all day to get a look at my bra!! so not suitable!!

I nearly only ever wear blouses, button up (hence the queery re the kaftan vs button up!) of a variety of colours, but I do like a white shirt/blouse. I also like to wear my husband's white work shirts, they are Thoms Pink ones, double cuff malarchi and sooooo soft (but he tells me off for stealing his clothes, heheheheheh)

Grace: I do have an issue with buttons too. I'm and 8-10 and don't have a big bust, despite having fed 5 children. I have found that a small press stuf sewn invisibly in a strategic place does the job. With a sever case, I have got my machine out and sewn new button holes in the spaces between the buttons and changed the existing buttons for new ones so that they all match (make sense?) I just think that MANufacturers put them like that on purpose.

I do have one lovely white blouse which is quite a high Lawrence Llewelyn style collar, open, long sleeved, cuffed, and one button at the top, but under an invisible seam, so you can't see it when it is fastened, and then a big old cross over affair which goes round across your stomach and the under part crosses the other way and passes through a small hole and they then tie together at the side. Gorgeous it is, my favourite. I wore it for my graduation! Very flattering, makes your stomach look very flat.

Another tip for gaping is to wear a camisole of vest. I had to do this when I was teaching. those year 10s! Frankly, they are the worst of any year group. i taught in a boys school for a while too, definately wearing a vest time there. You could practically smell the hormones at the school gates. gross!

Grace - same problem as you, so I get mine made for me (only 50 quid - last forever). No gaping, exactly theshape you want, nice material that you can wear any colour bra under and it won't show (that's worse than gaping when your bra shows through the material)

I prefer 3/4 length sleeves though, silver. Stops the ends getting mucky and I don't have to pull the sleeve up constantly to look at my watch.

Lets face it what women could really give a flyer if your WHITE blouse was 3 qtr length sleeve or not or whether you wore a tie with it mmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!

Well thankyou to all of you that have answered so far very interesting answers.Sorry scarlett my question wasnt meant to be pervy im not that sort of person.Emmalee id love to know what work you do as you wear one there and i can understand you wanting to wear another colour too but i just think white looks so smart with anything from suits to skirts/blouse or even jeans/white blouse. Maggie i see school was the last time your wore white yes i sure many here did that too though not sure if they liked it or not. I grew up with a girl at 14/15 who used to keep her blouse tie on after school as she just liked the smartl ook of it this was the 70s though how times have changed now most kids are so scruffy /untidy looking.Hope we hear a few more answers im male 40s uk .Thanks again to all of your replys very interesting answers.

Hello silver, as you were wondering I work in a jewellers, our uniform is a white blouse with black skirt/trousers, sometimes instead of feeling smart, I feel like I should have an apron on and work in a cafe!

Hi emmalee thanks for that i thought maybe it was an office you worked in.Our local henderson the jewellers the girls seem to wear black suits sometimes with white blouses but it doesnt look enforced. I can understand you wanting some other colour but as a customer to the shop id probably notice how smart the staff looked dressed like that though its better if the company itself provides the blouses so all the staff look the same. Other wise everyones in white ect but the look isnt co ordinated. I currently like the look of the morrisons supermarket chain but again im sure some of the staff must hate it too.Is your blouses provided or do you have to buy your own? Sorry for delay in answering! We have to buy our own, so as you say the look is not co-ordinated, and some staff dont know how to separate the whites before washing, resulting in a dingey white! We have asked the company on numerous occaisions to provide a uniform blouse, but they feel it has too many tax implications. As a company with 20+ stores, and more due to open next year, you would have thought uniform would be a given, but hey who are we to reason why!

Thanks again emmalee for your reply its much appreciated.Yes i cant understand either why a company insists on staff wearing a certain item but......doesnt supply them it seems crazy to me too.I know this local jewellers we have seems similar white blouses but everyone different looks silly.I even know of a babywear shop locally emmalee where for years the owner supplied white rever collar blouses for the ladies in summer and years back the winter outfit was a white blouse long sleeve crisp collar a light blue cravat type bow and navy blue v neck jumper with baby shop name on it. It was very official looking i suppose but it was very smart lots of customers liked it but a least the owner supplied it. Recently they changed it all to a light blue blouse open collar all year round with cardigan.But again as you say there all dressed the same looks far better.I do hope you get blouses supplied sometime have you ever tried writing to the head office suggesting it.I know your not a great fan of the white but as a customer comming into the shop seeing all the staff in say a white long sleeve plain shirt it does look very smart i think.Smartness at work seems rare these days or is it just me.Its a pleasure to hear from you and your opinnion thankyou john
