I cared for my elderly mother and a year after she died I felt completely useless I had learnt all these skills and I felt as if my world had fallen apart and did not know what to do. This is when I saw an advert in my local paper for volunteers and I loved working twice a month being an escort for elderly people to go to their club making them laugh, helping them on and off the bus. Made me feel whole again and if I was worth something. Sad to say I have moved on in my life and do not volunteer at the moment, but who knows
Would it help to think about dividing your life into compartments such as work, home, leisure, relationships? Tackle the causes of discontent in each of them separately and every week try to take some small steps in each section of your life to bring in some new interest or responsibility which will help stimulate you. Life can never be lived on a "high" all the time. All of us drift a little at points in our lives and have low periods.. The secret is to arrive at a situation where you can be content within yourself and then you won't feel so "let down" with yourself all the time.
