Sorry NOX, lost me with that one! Not sure what Roberta means with her question. Does she mean the Secretary Of State Owen Paterson or the leader/representative of the biggest political party in N. Ireland at the present, which is the DUP I believe.

I think Roberta might have been hoping it was Martin McGuiness or Gerry Adams which would have been a great opportunity to vent some spleen

McGuinness would have been invited, as are all the party leaders, but Sinn Fein don't go to that type of function.

All the NI partiy leaders represented at Westminster with the exception of Sinn Fein would have been there. N. Ireland has its own remembrance day ceremonies, at the main one of which the First Minister would have been present.
Some Sinn Fein members have attended remembrance ceremonies in N. Ireland in the past.

Just pointing out Phill that the DUP does NOT represent the whole of the north of Ireland, I nearly bit my tongue off in fact, and there is nothing incompatible with Sinn Fein members being respectful of men who died in the First and Second World Wars, the Korean War and the Falklands etc, it's just that it sticks in the throat a little if it's a UK celebration since that is not really the ideal of most Republicans, to be part of the UK, so it's slightly like going to Norway to attend somthing if they turned up in London, not to mention people are understandably still raw on all sides regarding the situation in the north, so it would be uncomfortable for everyone, but the DUP does not represent the north unilaterally.
