I dont think anyone could chuckle snootily successfully.
Laughing haughtily, definitely. That way if you're getting laughed at because done/said something stupid you can shrug off the embarrasment by joining in the laughter - whereas the latter, would just be offensive.
Either demonstrate a complete lack of respect so I don't think that one is better, or worse, than the other.
I can't be doing with a sniggerer................
I just can't imagine what 'chuckles snootily' sounds like...............

Okay so what is the correct term to precced the word snootily?
can't think of one yet............but chuckling is done by babies...=)
and Cocosweet can you explain the difference between haughty and snooty!
both are toffs and it sounds like......haw haw haw (sniff) haw.

Grasscarp the free dictionary has definitions as haughtily=Scornfull, condescendingly and proud.

Snootily=Snobbishly aloof and haughty.

So technically you could chuckle snootily i think.
from the OED - my reading one is an appearance, the other, action to others esp of lower (perceived) rank

Haughty - Pronunciation:/ˈhɔːti/

adjective (haughtier, haughtiest)

arrogantly superior and disdainful:a look of haughty disdain, a haughty British aristocrat

Snooty - Pronunciation:/ˈsnuːti/

adjective (snootier, snootiest)
informal
showing disapproval or contempt towards others , especially those considered to belong to a lower social class:snooty neighbours
chuckling is not the sort of action associated with someone who is aloof..
agree with cazz, definitely common - would be more like "snorting"
that's my point cazz................babies chuckle. they havn't learnt the class system yet!
this is the problem the meaning of snooty is also haughty so your question is is it worse to be laughed at or chuckled at. I am at a loss here as how would you know that someone's laugh/chuckle also had haughtiness behind it?
Question Author
So if i were to word this in a sentence you all agree that i could use "And she laughed haughtly as got back int her carriage and told the driver to make his way to baker street at a gentle pace" and "He snorted snootily as he was compared to the chimney sweep"?
are we helping you to write a novel here...............?
Aye oop - Coco's English even comes with in-built dialect.
Was he snorting snootily rather than sootily, which is how a chimney sweep would laugh then?
Reciprocate on both occasions with something like "Oh dear, the snotnoses have arrived"
