Tall Women

Do fashion manufacturers believe tall women disappear between the ages of 25-50? I have hit my mid 30's and want a reasonably priced, smart, yet fashionable look. I live in London, but my former fave shop near Baker St has gone frumpy and cheap(Squiggly designs & polyester suits). The catalogue idea of a tall woman is a 32" inside leg. (4" too short for me) and mainstream outlets leave me with tops that expose my midriff. Any suggestions????

Do you have a Dorothy Perkins near by? they've improved their styles over the past year or so and do short, regular, long and tall! although I'm of the shorter variety I have trouble with tops as you say 'exposing your midrift' by the time I get them over my bust so I usually go for the Tall range in tops and short - regular in trousers!
I'm 32 and although I don't want to be dressing like a teenager I'm not quite ready for twin sets and sunflowers!!
They're from the same chain as Miss Selfridge and I get most of my clothing from there. (who also do a tall range!)

Thank you Lore. I don't think I have ever bought anything from Dorothy Perkins. I tend to ignore the chain store shops because they only seemed interested in medium height, size 8, 10 and 12 in the past. I'm glad to hear they've woken up to the fact we are not all clones.

that's another good thing about them, even their larger sizes - which I think they go up to around 28.. designs don't become less flattering, it's great to see the same designs in ALL sizes - they even do a maternity range for those intrested!! :oP

this is the one chain I know of that a size 14 means size 14 - not just one item then a few inches bigger or smaller on the next item! if you catch my drift!

Thanks again Lore. I'm actually a 12 in Long Tall Sally, but their 12 is definitely not the same as a 12 from my Great Universal Catalogue and to be honest, I used to get a little embarrassd in chain stores asking for one size and having to upsize. On one occasion I actually downsized for a pair of trousers. It's about time the whole sizing issue was standardised more effectively, don't you think?

oh what an easy life we'd have then!! maybe the guys should get together on this one. it would certainly save them being dragged from shop to shop and sent back out of the fitting rooms to get an alternative size. Have to admit tho, it is amusing to have them running in and out!!
talk about a personal shopper! hehe.

That reminds me of that creepy advert I saw recently where youngsters faces are being washed down drains. I think its for spot cream. It reminds me of Hannibal Lector wearing the policeman's face in Silence Of The Lambs. I've also just looked at one of the tall sites and it's advertising petite clothes. I've got dolls bigger than that!
