To get 'titter' you put lol, with 7 o's :-)
Yes, 23 years, yes. Life changes and you go your different ways, but the friendship stays. It's good to see on here that other people have a longlasting friendship with someone of the opposite sex too, and their partners take it for what it is. It's how it should be.
It certainly is Boxy...

It's nice to see that.
My sister is my best friend.
I met my best friend on our first day at secondary school.

so that's quite a long time ago :o)
what is so nice is if your best friend is someone you came across completely by chance as I did, hit it off really unexpectedly, and are still here for each other, years later. We don't meet, we don't live in each other's pockets, we don't even live in the same country now - but we are solidly there for each other, any time either of us needs us.

I don't have anyone I see everyday (apart from OH and work), I would find that claustrophobic - but I do have a few good friends now, probably for the first time in my life. We celebrate together and lend each other shoulders to cry on when needed. The best friend isn't part of that group but could easily be. Moral support is hugely important - you can have acquaintances by the shedload, but the person you contact in your highs and lows is a true friend.
I moved away and never really stayed in touch with friends from school, over the years friends have come and gone, due to work or family. At the moment don't really have any friends just family. Its hard as you get older to meet people, kids are grown up so not meeting at school gate any more. Live in a small town any clubs tend to be very select. At work have a good laugh but no one to meet up with out of work, tend to keep to myself and quite happy being like it, though have my moments.
I am extremely lucky to have two. Lil, a lifelong friend of almost 50 years, and Tara-ra-bum-ti-eh of 12 years' duration. They have been my rocks, my diamonds and my treasures.
My so-called best friend and I fell out in January just gone. My other best friend and I don't keep in touch that often these days but we still send each other Xmas and birthday cards. Known her since we were 5.
