Partner's rubbish birthday present
38 Answers
My partner is 27 this week, his parents gave him 3 pairs of socks, the wrong size, and 1 can of Lynx which says 'not to be sold separately' on the side, so it was obviously one of a multipack (can he expect the other one for xmas?!) This was all wrapped in Minnie mouse wrapping paper!!
His parents are fairly well off, 2 foriegn holidays a year, out drinking or having a meal almost every weekend, not that it's about how much the gift cost, but its hard to say that it's the thought that counts, when there clearly wasn't a thought - neither of them even knew how old he was this year, from the look of the card, i'd say they thought he was turning 7.....
Tell me about your rubbish birthday presents to cheer him up - I once got an AA winter car kit with de-icer, scraper, jump leads etc in it, from my dad....didn't have a car at the time though!

A) I can't do chrysanths they give me a blinding head ache
B) they are impossible to arrange on their own and look good
C) he left them in the boot of the car all through a hot day so they were virtually dead

A couple of years ago my paernts bought me for christmas some silver arm wamers (don't know if that's even what they're called - like legwarmers, which i thought they were, but for you arms!) with plastic 'gems' stuck on them and a triple pack of gaudy glitter eyeshow. Not my sort of thing to say the least...

haha ... i am not ashamed to admit that i actually like some of the stuff on there! ... such as one of the picture frames.. kind of metal filigree with coloured bits i think....
with some people on there though, it seems their idea of a bad gift is merely one that is not quite their taste, rather than it being a bad, thoughtless and mean spirited gift, as some woudl think those items perfect for them...
for instance for me... i would hate it if you bought me an expensive pair of gold and diamond earrings with a single diamond.... nothing wrong with them and most women would utterly love it...but just not my taste or style - i would never wear them and probably sell them
twenty20 - how sad for you that you think gifts are only for children... i feel sorry for you and your family if thats your attitude...clearly you have no idea what giving gifts is all about...

My mum has never been very good at pressie buying. for my 17th birthday she gave me a silver plated brooch of a horse's head. I had never worn brooches and had never liked horses. to this day i wonder what she was thinking.
From an ex as a thankyou for loaning him money and taking him out whilst he was out of work for a while, rather than paying me back when he got his 1st pay packet from his new job he gave me a box of out of date chocs and a scary looking adult toy.
we didn't last long after that!!!

My MIL gave me padded pink satin coathangers for my 23rd birthday, and 15 years later the same again for my christmas, poor hubby had to put up with the rant all day. I decided to re -gift them back to her on mothers day, ( well she must have liked them to buy them). Gather I must have been in her bad books those years. The worst I heard of was a MIL giving her DIL a pack of brown envelopes and some one else used nail varnish.
My sister-in-law got my Aunt an extra big tub of vaseline! That was the best-still makes me laf. Me mum intercepted and didnt give it her! My brother-in-law got my sister a day as a zoo keeper-which might sound good to some, but my sister is not exactly an animal fan and was not overly excited at the prospect of a day in animal muck! She got money back and went to a spa!!
