Computer related question ...

I have a computer related question, and would appreciate a little help...
My daughters have inherited a computer for their bedroom from their Grandad. We have done all the appropriate things... wiped it clean, taking off the files that he had on there, put a parental control on it, defraged.. disc clean up.. all that sort of thing. Set a new log-in account for them.... all of which was done by my very computer clever nephew, but alas he has gone and the thing we would like to know now is how to remove my father's log-in account.. ( all be it empty..) we can add one on but don't know how to take one off.
I get by very nicely with the computer knowledge that I have and I like to think ( although in my 40's) am not a complete dummy.. just don't know how to do this..

If you click on start, then control panel, you should see in the list of options 'add / remove accounts'. This should let you do what you want. However, if nephew has decided not to allow you administartive rights, you won't see this option when you go the control panel.
BTW are you sure the computer is OK in the girl's bedroom? Kids tend to get themselves in too deep with issues esp. those generated by social networking sites and chatrooms. Heva read:

Couple of things ...
First .. it's using Windows XP..
Thanks for the Geek link... not sure if I follow that that much ..
I've gone to the 'add / remove' but it's files only, not accounts.
There is an 'maintenance account' , which was already there .. would it be on there ?
Secondly ... regarding the safety of having a computer in their room.. I know the inter-net is a dark and dangerous place, but we ( my husband and I ) already monitor closely their activity on social networking sites. They do not have any contact with any "friends" that we know they DON'T know. We can check their browser history daily... we've put parental controls on the computer .. and at the end of the day we have to trust in them. They are very truthful ( sometimes to their own detriment ) and very sensible girls and have been diplomatically lectured about what they can do and what they can't.
We have told them that everything they do on it is being sent remotely to my nephews computer ( a little 'white' lie.. but forgivable I think you'd agree ) so they know we are respecting their privacy but they can't do anything untoward .... In a way it's easier to monitor than their mobile phones, ( my eldest has a blackberry ) we can't monitor that, so I don't think we've done anything too bad by allowing a computer in their room........ The perils of parenting I suppose ! But if you think there are other measures we can take I'm glad for any advise..... :o)

Click on the account you want to remove
Click on Delete the Account

Wow ... Thanks !!!

I've done it !!
The reason we couldn't do it was because the account that needed to be removed was set as 'administrative'.... so changed it to 'limited' and hey presto.... Job done !
I love it when a plan comes together....

One of the easier things to do in XP : )
Are the other accounts Administrators too then? As you shouldnt be able to delete any/all of them unless logged in as another administrator!
