My mum has had both hips done and she was just like you. This was at least 10 years ago (seperately) and she has never looked back. She tells people that the most important thing is to keep up the exercising that you may need to do, even though it may hurt a little. She is now 88 and still going strong on her new hips! Good luck.
10ClarionSt's just had this done

I had one hip done 2 years ago, it's fine. I was absolutely petrified but the operation wasn't nearly as bad as I expected. Keep exercising and try to walk about to keep your muscles working. Aftr the op all the pain will have gone. Just concentrate on keeping your leg straight and obeying the instructions. If you have a wet-room at least you can have a shower before the 6 weeks is up. My other hip is playing up now and I'm trying not to think about it just yet.
i dont have any personal experience herbie, but good luck.
My Uncle had one and the relief was instant. He was sent home with crutches and an exercise regime. He was onto one crutch within the week.
Right hip replaced 25 years ago, left hip replaced 30 years ago.
Not a bit of a problem since.
It is a major procedure and each person responds differently in their recovery.

Prosthesis is important, but you must rely on your surgeon.
2 hips done and absolutely no problems now (i am 37)
are you having it done on the nhs? If so the ot's will make sure you have stuff for coming home. The main thing is not to sit too low - your hip can't be at more than 90 degree angle (ie the knee can't be higher than the hip) the ot's will give you your safe sitting height and ask you to measure your chairs and bed. Re aids they gave me: bed handle, raised bed, long handled shoe horn, sock putter-onner, raised toilet seat and toilet frame and "helping hand"
I have one new hip 2 new knees and 2 new shoulders. Everyone has been a god send for taking away the pain.

I don't know about where you live. but in my neck o the woods the hospital arrange a home assessment prior to the opp and measure the height of the chair. bed and toilet you will use when you are discharged. If any equipment is needed to raise these they are loaned for the duration you require them.

The pain relief is virtually instant. Make sure you do the recovery exercises and you will be out walking in no time. Good luck

Hi Herbie: I had my left one done 2 yrs ago and it's been great, no problems at all, just do the exercises they give you and follow all the instructions about resting and walking too. I'm having my right one done this coming Wednesday. Not really looking forward to the next 6 weeks but I know I'll be 100% better for having it done. Good luck
