Do you update your house?

My mum fell out with a friend a good few years ago. Anyway, they recently bumped into each other and are friendly again. She invited my mum round and literally everything was the same as it was years ago - same rug, ornaments, curtains, cushions, pics on the wall, (even the same bedding!). My mum didn't really like it as she said it was like stepping back in time and found it depressing.

My mum's friend had a nasty divorce from her husband so I can't believe she hasn't changed the house in any way at all (I'd want to change everything).

So my question is, do you buy new mirrors, rugs, ornaments etc every now and again to update your house? I'd feel very down if I thought my house would look exactly like this in 10 years time lol

No, i don't, well not regularly anyway. Think the last time we changed the livingroom was about 7 years ago? We went from green and lilac to browns and creams, I still like the look so changed nowt so far.
I am terrible for constantly changing soft furnishings as I get bored quite quickly. So I'm forever getting new curtains and buying cushion covers, rugs, candles etc to match.........

and don't forget glassware and vases jno...............oh and canvas wallprints.
certainly, and would you like some art?

lol jno............I'm not into retro.
I dont belong to the throwaway society, probably due to the fact things were so hard when I was young that you looked after everything you had - whether it be new or second hand.
I don't update much. My cooker and fridge are quite old, but they work well, so why change them? My suite is about 12 years old now, but comfy and still looks good, so it will be lasting a bit longer yet! The only things I tend to update are TV's, digital recorders and DVD's.
I don't update things just for the sake of it. Most of the stuff in our house is things Ive gathered and collected over the years, and I certainly don't redecorate just for the sake of it. My sofa's eleven years old, ornaments and stuff a great deal older. I wouldn't want a show house.
I agree with Brenden.

Rampant materialism has a lot to answer for (e.g. resource depletion, high debt levels, etc)
