DVD Recorder

If I was to buy a DVD recorder (no hard drive) that would record onto DVDs, would I be able to 'shuffle' my way back to the place last stopped recording and restart from that point or would the DVD just go back to the beginning and I'd have to watch the whole thing through until that last stopped position?...I'm hoping it will be like what used to happen with videos!...I hope I've explained this okay? Ta Muchly.

However, if you were to make two recordings for example and later wanted to delete the first one, the second recording would stay on the same spot on the disc, so you'd end up with an empty space, then the second recording which you wouldn't be able to move. Hope this makes sense!
