Strong smelling plants

I'm going to replant the entrance to my house. Not a front garden but between the drive and backdoor. I'd like as many ideas that you can come up with so this area always smells nice. This means plants that smell strong and don't have to put your nose upto. My first priorities will be a Daphne and a Honeysuckle. I already have a Jasmine, Wisteria, Mexican Orange and Philadelphus. Do you know any flowers that smell strongly and a strong smelling rose?

Try Rosemary - it's evergreen and there's a wonderful aroma when it rains or when something brushes against it .

zaluzianskya - plant tubs of these under your bedroom windows, they open after dusk, and small gprgeous.

Never heard of these anna; are they an annual? a bit like night scented stock?

You really can't go wrong with Monarda (Bee balm). Most people are familiar with the varietal "Jacob Kline", but the dwarf varieties are even more intense in their fragrance. Nice thing is the stems and leaves are as fregrant in their own right as are the flowers.

They are self seeding so one needs to use a little aggressive action to contain them. Need quite a bit of sun and moderate watering...

Also don't forget annuals.....dark blue petunias smell devine, marigolds, nicotiana, stocks,night scented phlox, sweet peas, and my fave, night scented stocks.

Wallflowers, pansies and primroses all smell nice when the sun's on them !!!

Forgot about wallflowers, they're lovely and I hadn't realised the dark blue petunias were highly perfumed. Personally i don't like the smell of marigolds but they are very useful for keeping greenfly away.
I'm really looking forward to getting to work in the Spring.

Plant the mint in a trough, coccinelle, that's what we do - stops the roots getting out and causing mayhem. Lemon Mint, Mint verbena, Lime mint, ginger mint - we bought a selection last year on-line from a nursery in Scotland.

Nicotiana - tobacco plants - release their scent at night.

We are putting clumps of garden mint all around our wild garden in the grass, its lovely as the dogs run through it, we also have all kinds of mint around the paths as well that the dogs also run through, pointless having any thing in the garden that isn't dog proof lol.

Thanks boxtops for the tip. Are there nicotiana that have stronger smells than others? I grew some a few years ago and they hardly smelt of anything.

Didn't see your post when I posted Ratter. Yes, I can imagine with something the size of your wolfhound (isn't it?) you need strong plants.
