i have a boil up my left nostril , any ideas how to either pop it or easy the pain, no wise cracks please cos it really hurts!

You could try holding a hot flannel to the side of your nose, in the hope it would bring it to a head and burst. Or try putting some cotton wool in hot water and putting it in your nostril like a plug to see if that will burst it. Good Luck it sounds painfull.

You could also try steaming! Put head under a towel, over hot steamy water. That will get up yur nostrils and at least may help "weaken" it a bit.

Oooh do be careful with boils in the face area. Do you have a nurse at your surgery? See if you can go in the morning & in the meantime take some paracetamol.

sqirt some cream up and put some cotton wool there to. Should sort it out.

I agree with Robinia - as embarrassed as you may feel, make an appointment with your local nurse. I am sure they have seen worse things. By poking around, trying to burst the boil, you could end up with a full on infection as it's not in an area that can be kept sterile etc. Also, why have you got the boil in the first place??? It could be an ingrowing hair and it will keep coming back if you don't get to the bottom of it.

Whilst going to the nurse is the sensible option, the steaming idea is really good - heat works very well as a drawing agent, if you use hot water and cotton wool, it needs to be really hot water, and you MUST completely ring out the water from the cotton wool - crushing it between two spoons is the best way to do this. This way you get the intense heat but without scalding yourself. Warning - it hurts like hell!!!! I get many abcesses! Also take anti-inflamatory's.
