I had never thought of freezing milk until a neighbour said cartons can be kept in the freezer-if it's skimmed or semi-skimmed.Any opinions on this,please?How long can it be kept,etc? (We were discussing stocking up in case we can't get out if we get snow like we did last winter!!) I enjoyed reading about the home-made soup-nothing to beat it, esp Scotch Broth or Tattie Soup!
Not just me, then, Bambiagain! I remember it sitting outside the classroom and dreading when they bought it in! It put me off milk too! (and we had no choice but to drink it). Nasty, nasty stuff when it's warm. Yuk!
Loved reading all your replies-this is more like Chatterbank tonight! Bambiagain I must be a bit older than you-no foil tops in the thirties when I was at school. My daughter pretends to play a violin when I start reminiscing!
I must have been more stubborn than you, Voulez-vous! I absolutely refused to drink it and nothing and nobody was able to make me. I did have friends who were willing to drink it for me, though.

The 60's heralded (in my school) a clear your plate regime.............every dinner was scary, you had to eat it all up, and if you didn't there was hell to pay.
If I remember correctly the colours of the foil lids were:-
Gold foil = milk from Channel Islands
Silver foil = whole milk
Red foil = homogenised whole milk
Red and silver striped foil = semi-skimmed milk
Blue and silver checked foil = skimmed milk
Green foil = raw (unpasteurized) milk
Gold striped foil on a green background = unpasteurized milk from Channel Islands
