Maybe I am a bit niave , we are in a bad place at the moment but we still are giving aid to India amongst other countries. When we are so strapped ,surely we should support our own charities first. Also we bailed out the banks but they still have call centres overseas that to my mind should be brought back to the UK to give employment here. Any Comments ?

Neever mind on hear anotheroldgit , what about the stae of our country, its crazy.
India needs no aid. It is rich enough to join the nuclear club.
However we are all part of the human race and morally need to consider those in most dire need of help and be thankful we are not in the same predicament as they.
Transfer of labour is a differnt thorny issue. And one that IMO puts large concerns in a poor light as they chase lowest cost with no loyalty to their nation of origin.

very fine sentiment but we CANT afford it
>>>morally need to consider those in most dire need of help

Some people in India are only in dire need of help because the country does not share out its money.

It is happy to build rockets to go to the moon, build nuclear bombs, and it has far more millionaires than the UK, but thair "caste" system forces low caste people to stay poor and in need.

If they shared out their money fairer (like we in the UK do) there would not be so much poverty.

Oh so we share our money fairly do we ? Tell that to OAPs who are on the breadline and have to choose between food or heat. Its ok forr them to have to choose so that England can play Lady Bountiful

It was very noticeable recently that the DFID department was the only one to meet its targets. Well they would do as they only have to hand out taxpayers money to overseas countries.
It would be a sad day when we couldn't afford to give something to help the poorest.
tell that to our pensioners sandyroe
I call it gross irresponsibility - as I would be guilty of if I gave all my money away to a worthy cause and then had to borrow vast amounts to get by.
We have a large Indian & Pakistani community in the UK who send money to relatives in those countries.

Isn't that enough?

I know someone who spent time teaching street children in Bangalore, the rich silicon valley of India...
