Can anyone please tell me where i can find out why some one was declared unfit for the services in 1942 told he was grade three what does that mean thanks.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.A1 means the recruit was at the top of the scale the medical assessment test used, my great uncle joined the RAF as ground crew in 1940 as he was B3, he still lived til he was 92 though. I can't just find a link that lists all the grades but just '3' isn't right I don't think, there would have been a letter in front of that.

I have the card in front of me it is pale green saying:-
National Service (Armed Forces) Acts.this person was medically examined 28 th August 1940 and found to be unfit. GRADE 1V (FOUR) sorry I thought it was three. I never did find out why.(but no letter in front)
