shop bought all butter puff pastry.....

and short crust pastry that you roll out yourself......(being here in the states)...in the stores are these kept chilled, say, in a refrigerator section or are they on the shelf (non refrigerated)......am pondering if this would make the trip from the UK to america alright....hmmmmmmmmmmm

at least where i am here in new york state, we do not have the 500g blocks or puff pastry or short crust pastry and as a cook, the idea behind it intrigues me alot....in the stores around here all i ever see is sheets of puff pastry in a box ready to use....i am not sure that the idea of the block of pastry ever caught on over here....like double cream never caught on over here
Well, if you really want to try it, it`s do-able. Don`t put it in your suitcase though - it will look remarkably like Semtex on the x-ray. You could get away with it in hand baggage. Ask the crew to give you a bag of ice to put it with. Customs will probably be OK. Just make sure you declare it though. They go balistic if they find it and you haven`t. And you know how charming, non-aggressive and just plain intelligent JFK customs and security are....
