Biker returned from Amsterdam 48hrs ago & I've had to take him to A&E as he collapsed. He couldn't speak nor breathe without pain as his body ached. He thinks he's been poisoned ?

He's got viral gastro-enteritis that the doc says is highly contagious & is hospitalised; he's in safe hands now.

Hope I dont catch it.
Oh dear - being barrier nursed, I hope. Poor fellow, send him best wishes from afar from us
Question Author
what is barrier nursed, boxy
Barrier nursing is mostly ( but not always done in a side room) all who enter must wear gowns , masks and gloves. The aim is to prevent any cross infection.
I had that when I was about 3/4. I was in a room on my own and they had to wear masks and everything. I can remember the nurse trying to get me to drink some cold tea. Put me off it for life =s I also remember getting a Polly Pocket Island when I got home!
Question Author
sounds serious....does he need a polly pocket - what the hell's that ? Am I being wound up :)
In a normally fit person this should be dealt with quite well. The Polly pocket is a toy and not needed I think in this instance.

thanx mamya, am not good on medics obviously.
Not a wind up! Lol! That's just the skewed memories of when I had it as a kid. I think the major concern with it is if you get too dehydrated, but that shouldn't happen if he's already in hospital. I think they were going to put me on a drip but then I started to improve.

How do you not know about Polly Pocket?! Those little doll thingys haha :-)

My youngest is 30y, she only liked scratch smellies
Poor thing! How is he now?

Am guessing he should have had some kind of idea what it is by now? It's suprising how severe some things can be, sounds a bit similar to acute cholecystitis, I was violently ill and in agony. Infections, blockages, food bugs etc... can all be nasty.

Why would he think he was poisoned? Intentionally or accidentally?

Hope he's feeling a lot better now.

Biker discharged after 3 injections to fit intravenous tube as veins collapsed due to dehydration. 4lts sodium chloride, 2x5mil paracetol and shot of pain killer for muscle spasms, through phial. His job is boatman, he had same as Dvd Walliams from Thames polluted river.

He called 'help' to passing cyclist, who said "cant help mate, call 999". Biker hadn't breath to speak let alone call 999.
Too much wacky-baccy?
Question Author
no way, mung beans you're as disgusting as cylcist who wouldn't help.
Well. I was only trying to help unlike the cyclist.
Oh that sounds nasty :( Hope the meds have done their job and he is feeling better now.

Can't believe someone wouldn't stop to help, what's wrong with people!
