my sons playstation is playing up and i dont know how to fix it for some reason it will only play blue discs which is unfortunate coz with his 8th birthday money he has just bought two new games which are both silver!! does anyone have any ideas of what i can do with it ive tried cleaning the lens and its not worked?????????????

I thought all PS2 games were black undersided... Even normal DVDs aren't silver undersided... usually only CDs! Are you sure they're not PC games?

Quite a common problem! Mine won't play the blue ones! Try standing it up on it's side...sometimes that works. You can get silver underside games ones..we have a few.
There is some thing on the net about opening it up and fixing it..if out of warranty. they don't make things to last anymore. Awkward time for it to fail really, ps3 isn't far off..but don't want to shell out for another ps2 when i want a ps3 in a year!

yes positive ive just rang sony playstation help line and all new games are silver so they use the dvd drive they can eventually make the playstaion even smaller then by only using the reader,so apparently my dvd reader is broken and they are going to collect my ps2 on wed and deliver me a new one at the same time!! perfect result up to now thankyou for replying so fast too!

tracy your other driver must be dodgy have you had it long?

Yes..had it a few years. My newest game, Madagascar, works but olderone's like my GTA's don't. i get the old disc error message. Not that i have much time anymore to play it anyway!

tracymort, you want to do a bit of research before buying games!
there were at least 70 games better than this one released on PS2 in the year 2005.
If you just buy anything instead of buying the proper good games, then developers won't bother making good games anymore...
Have a look at websites such as gamerankings.com or gametab.com before buying.

also: PS3 is not guaranteed to play all PS2 games.
a sony representative said "It's hard to say the PlayStation 3 will be 100 percent backwards compatible, but as we said earlier this year, we aim to make it so as much as possible" .

It's not even guaranteed to have any interesting game next year, so why do you want it in a year?? it doesn't make sense... You need to know what you're buying, othewrise you're just encouraging the game industry to deteriorate...
