Mirror screwed directly to the wall..

I have a mirror screwed directly onto the wall. I'm trying to take it down. Three screws come out okay but the 4th one is just turning.

Will it be safe to smash it? If I do smash it, what is the safest way to go about it?

The screw is about an inch from the top/side, and it's in a very small bathroom so the toilet is very close to the wall it's on.

I'm not superstitious so breaking a mirror is not a problem :-)

Cover the whole mirror in criss crossed masking tape then smash it with a hammer (not too hard though).

Put the edge of a blunt knife under the screw and lever it outwards while trying to unscrew it.

Failing that, if the rawl plug is just turning in the wall there's a pretty good chance you'll just be able to pull it out the wall.

Yes .. lever out the mirror with a wide large piece of metal or tool of some kind .. and work the screw while you lever.

If you do end up smashing it, you'll be finding shards of glass for months(speak from experience!)

Quite Chuck. In fact I'm surprised pulling the mirror didn't bring the screw/plug with it anyway. (If it doesn't probably best not to force it.)

Try sawing the head off the screw with a hacksaw.

Pincers are probably not the answer .. because someone using them on a mirror screw and not used to this king of thing, will probably tilt and place a load on the glass across the screw-hole. Then you will crack the glass.

A mirror screw is a countersunk screw with a small threaded hole in the centre for a threaded cover cap (often chrome)
When the screw is fitted, the top is almost flush with the face of the mirror .. in a spreader sleeve. HOW are you going to hacksaw that off? : )

I did what daffy said. And because of what Ginge said I put news paper down.

The reason it was coming down is because there was a crack in it. So I thought...what the hell.

It's down now...and the holes are filled.
