Any idea on prices and best mode of transport?

by car through belgium and france, short dover/calais ferry crossing so it only spends a short time in the car on the car deck by itself, or tunnel crossing so you can stay in the car with it. you'd have to make sure about injection timings and suitable vets in france, and the legalities.
not taken any animal abroad or brought one back myself but know of many who have, albeit not necessarily a puppy. no idea of price but i'm sure a bit of googling would bring the info up.

You probably know already but, make sure it has all the microchips, inoculations, pet passport so that it does not have to go into Quarantine . Quarantine is VERY expensive at least £1500 ! and the puppy has to be there for 6 months.

Ratter you need to get a move on just been Googling and from 1st January 2012 you HAVE to put the pet into Quarantine even from the EU with a pet passport. After 1st Jan all pets have to go into quarantine but can be released early if you have all the correct paperwork in place.
Before 1st Jan you can still bring a pet in from the EU without quarantine as long as it has all the documentation in place.

All the info is on the link , there are 2 options, before 1/1/2012 and from 1/1/2012 so get your skates on ! It will cost you a LOT more if you do not do get the puppy here by 31/12/2011.

Sorry Eddie but that is total boll*x! It will actually be easier to bring them in from January, only needing weeks rather than months after their rabies jab!

From the 1 January 2012 all pet dogs, cats and ferrets (including guide and hearing dogs) can enter or re-enter the UK from any country in the world without quarantine provided they meet the rules of the scheme, which will be different depending on the country or territory the pet is coming from.

Ok I misread it , still need all the documents in place though. I would say best transport from Holland would be the ferry to Harwich or Felixstowe.The boats on that route are a lot bigger than the Dover ferries , plenty of room to walk about.

If the puppy has received its rabies jab any time before next Monday it will be able to travel to the UK on the 1st January. Twenty-one days is all that is required, plus of course the worming treatment but that is easier as well as it is within 1 - 5 days of travelling rather the day before travelling.

Most of my friends use the ferry Calais to Dover or Hook to Harwich, or else the Eurostar. Check their websites for the cost.

I'm actually drinking a can of Dutch lager as we speak, brought over last week when friends took a dog back to the Netherlands - they are travelling back over for Crufts in March with three dogs to show. Aso depending on where Ratter lives its probably easier than getting a puppy from the other end of the UK! I have one coming from Finland hopefully early next year.

Thanks guys, it is for a friend of mine, looking for a Malinois, he doesn't like the type we have here but likes one that he has seen in Holland, they have a different shaped head apparently.

Certainly not a dog I would want to be honest.

The show bred ones are very different from the working ones. The police are using them a lot more as they are very determined workers (watch them in the police dog demos - they have to go in and get them off the 'criminals'!) We have someone on here who has one - Islasmum.

I'm interested to know, Ratter how your friend thinks the heads differ from Begian Shepherds bred in the uk as opposed to a dog bred in Holland?

If your friend would like any advice I can give you Isla's breeder's email and phone no. as she travels a lot with her dogs.

Hi Islasmum, To be honest I really don't know how they differ, my friend is Romanian and had these Dutch dogs in Romania and he says they are different, apparently he isn't really bothered about showing but wants to do agility with the dog. I really don't understand, it appears he is organising to get one brought over from Holland.

There are many dogs I would never have, If it wasn't for the wolfhounds I would probably go back to Jack Russells (and I mean real Jack Russells, not these showy things)

Well my second preferred breed is Labradors,I have two of them, and have had at least one in the family since childhood; they are very easy dogs to have. I do like Jack Russells, but think that I would probably spend most of my time falling over them!
