satnav software and maps... no disc to reinstall...

i have just bought a satnav from ebay, but the seller did not send the maps disc with the package and is now saying he didnt know there was one as hes seeling it for someone else... he has offered a full refund including P&P so thats not the issue...

i have copied all the files over onto my PC, and wondered if, should there be a problem with the machine, that will be enough for me to reinstall the operating system? ... can i just copy them back over and they will be installed?
will the disc just have the files on to be merely copied over anyway?
or can i even make my own disc from them?

i have had situations before where its no good just having the files, they need to actually run through the install procedure... otherwise they wont work.

just want to make sure i have back up
